Midway through 2017, time to Review, Reset & Refocus on things that really matter in 2017. At the beginning of 2016 I wrote a blog post: How to Focus on Things That Really Matter in 2016. Saying the blog post was a hit is an understatement, a lot of people really found it useful.
So I thought it would be a great idea for me to show my readers how I review, reset & refocus on my goals. At the beginning of this year 2017, I was away on holidays so I didn’t pen how to focus on things that really matter in 2017.
However I did set my goals at the beginning of the year 2017. I did a lot of thinking during the Christmas holidays and decided on the direction I was going to take this year 2017.
Before I move further do you know that setting goals or writing them down does not mean you will get the results. Are you surprised? Don’t worry I have got you covered right here with exactly what you need to do to ensure that these goals come to pass. Read more about this below;
Setting Goals Does Not Guarantee Results-5 Things You Need
My goals for 2016 were split into 4 groups as follows;
*Spiritual, *Personal *Family & *Business
So 2017 is based on reviewing my goals for 2016, to read them in detail click link below;
How to focus on things that really matter in 2016
I have maintained my spiritual, personal and family goals as I didn’t need to change these. I am happy with my progress to see what they were:
However, I had to review, reset & refocus my business goals see below;
On reviewing my performance at the end of 2016 I found that I did well on growing my blog readers as set on my strategy. I entered a number of international European markets which I was targeting. I wrote and published 27 articles for a natural hair site educating women on how to take care and love the hair they were born with.
Through this I gained readership from the United States as well as earned myself some (US Dollars) which was great. One of my goals is to earn currencies in US dollars and Pounds Sterling. From a finance perspective this allows me to use those currencies to purchase from the US and UK instead of converting AUSD to USD or to Pounds Sterling which becomes too expensive. I also use this money when travelling as the AUSD ( Australian dollar is weaker than these two currencies.
So going forward I will only be posting 2 great blog posts per month. I am going for quality over quantity in everything I do. This will give me time to focus on developing masterpieces in both accounting services and accounting training.
To Write Some Courses & Run Courses on My Blog
I did not do this at all instead I wrote short workshops to teach women finance skills. It’s probably something I will put on hold for now and maybe might explore this in the next year or so. However, I did one engagement and had some leads but yeah, I will put this on hold for now.
To get more clients in my Accounting and Bookkeeping segment
This is my number one priority so it is something I am actively working on. I have started some (CPD) Continuous Professional Development Units with a target to finish before Christmas. So, this will allow me to add extra services to my accounting services. I believe in continuous learning as this makes me a better accountant and training consultant.
To increase clients in my Coaching & Mentoring program
I have noticed that this is part of training delivery. So I would get rid of this and do it as part of training delivery which is what I have been doing.
Training at Colleges/ University
This is something I really wanted to focus on. I wanted to move to the bigger colleges and universities which I am currently doing and loving. I guess the thing about it is I have a numbers bug, I got to be either doing the accounting itself or teaching other people how to do this money thing. The one thing I love about this is I am helping people acquire skills so that they can get better jobs to provide for their families.
On a side note the fact that I didn’t pursue some of my business goals does not mean that I failed. However, on reviewing I decided to reset and refocus on other areas. Remember when we set plans we do not know the future so we work with what we have. A lot of things will affect our plans which might lead us to change.
I am now focusing on only 3 areas that is accounting services , training delivery and content creation for my blog. This means I am not spreading myself too thin but improving the quality of my work and increasing my services as well.
We live in an environment which is not constant so we have to build flexibility. So even though I set goals at the beginning of 2016. I still left room for God to move and direct my plans simple because:
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”declares the Lord.
9“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
So, hope this post is useful in guiding you on how to review, reset & refocus your goals for the rest of 2017.
Since we are almost midyear, it’s time to review what went well and what did not. From your results then reset & refocus on what works and or what you are most passionate about for the rest of the year.
In my own view life is a learn as you go process so go ahead and Review, Reset & Refocus Your Goals
