One of my top goals for the first quarter of 2016 was to move my site to another blogging platform. Redesigning my site taught me to let go of the old to learn the new. Anyways the target was to be done in strictly 7 days. Hubby was helping me which was great as two are better than one.
So I approached the designing with the mindset that I know this staff, I have done this before. However whenever I tried to apply this prior knowledge I found myself getting frustrated because it just was not working. After day 3, I had not made any progress I mean days and nights. Hubby‘s approach was different he was willing to learn.
I should have followed the scripture below and admitted that this is a different content management system and I needed to learn and follow the instructions. I was using my old knowledge based on a different platform on a new platform which was totally different.
The old platform was manually oriented yet the new platform is based on widgets and plugins. Actually it’s like using the manual for an LG TV for a Samsung TV. Who does that? It doesn’t work right.

No wonder the wise writer of the book of Luke says:
And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. Luke 5V37 NIV
So hubby and I started following the tutorials and YouTube videos and then we got it right. On day 7 just before midnight after 6 sleepless nights the site went live. We still met our target but I could have prevented the frustration by just discarding prior knowledge and learning the new.

So I even wrote step by step notes as you can see on my notebook above. I used stick notes to separate the section. By this time I was prepared to learn and excited that as long as I follow the procedure it seemed to be working.
The lesson learnt is that you cannot learn the new if you still holding on to old ways. So unlearn the old accumulated irrelevant knowledge and get rid of it. After that you would have created room to learn the new.
